Anon's friend writes chapters

>Be me

>19 year old aspiring writer

>All my assignments for English in school have been pretty great, but I haven't managed to finish any substantial piece of writing outside of school

>Have a friend, let's call him Dave

>Dave is convinced he'll be a successful writer some day

>Has no idea who Stephen King is

>YeahImSureYoullBeSuccess.gif

>Dave shows me his writing

>It's shit compared to mine, but he's made a lot more progress

>See he subdivides his writing into chapters, whereas I don't

>Ask him why he does that

>He says it helps divide up the story into more easily digestible chunks and it signifies the ends of different events

>Ask how much he's planned his story ahead

>He shows me this utterly massive folder filled with character sketches, maps for each time period, fake US passports for each character, the flower he was staring at when he was inspired to start writing, etc.

>After I recover from the shock, I tell him I prefer to write by the seat of my pants, so I'll put chapters in after writing everything and knowing how it's divided up

>He laughs at me

>The man who hasn't heard of Stephen King laughs at me

>The man who's wasted so much time making a folder filled with bullcrap unnecessary to the story laughs at me

>Know I should learn a lesson in humility and learn there are different ways people can write

>Don't

>Get mad at Dave, shout at him for being inefficient

>He shouts at me for being wishy-washy

>I show him my writing. There's a lot less of it than what he has.

>He goes over it twice.

>'Holy shit, anon, this is gold. I should try your technique!'

Lesson learned: only ever write by the seat of your pants.
